Over the last year, I’ve been on a mission to knock on every door in the ward and find out what matters in every neighbourhood. After hundreds of conversations with residents, one thing has become abundantly clear: you want this part of the city to have a real voice within Sheffield City Council.
That’s why - if I am elected on 7th May 2026 - I promise to make that happen. I would make engaging residents in how decisions are made my top priority.
My name is Beth Cheshire, and I live here in S13 with my husband and our toddler. This area is my home, and where my daughter will grow up - so I’m determined for it to be the very best it can be.
I’ve never been a councillor before, but I believe I can bring the kind of fresh perspective to council that is needed to make change.
I want residents to be proud to say they live here. I know we can make that happen, because I’ve already seen what this community can achieve when it comes together
Many people feel that this area has lost a sense of community, but everywhere I’ve heard from people willing to get stuck in and change that. That’s why I pledge to support local groups, create new community events and most of all to ensure our public spaces are ready for use.
I want to end the widespread issue of “wasted spaces”. From boarded-up high street shops to council-owned properties left empty for years - these are wasted opportunities for our community. I am campaigning to change the way we deal with these properties once and for all.
Parts of our area have issues with anti-social behaviour and crime. Not only would I work closely with police to tackle this, I’d prioritise addressing the root causes. Running youth clubs, improving street lighting, and signposting mental health services are just a few examples.
A March 2026 report in The Star showed that reports of potholes have tripled in recent years. Sheffield has paid significant sums of money over many years to a third-party contractor to keep our roads safe, so there is no reason we should have to accept this. It is time to hold Amey to account.
Protecting our environment is one of the most important fights of our generation. In Sheffield, that means enabling more effective public transport, supporting successful existing initiatives like Climate Bonds, and of course - protecting our green spaces and areas of high biodiversity.
To represent local residents as a councillor, I believe you have to reach out and listen to them. That’s why - in the lead up to May - I am trying to knock on every door in the area, and give you the opportunity to have your say.
If you have five minutes, I am asking residents to fill out the following survey. That will let me know what your priorities are for the area, and what you want to see from me if elected.
